Skilled workers are very important to the Canadian economy. They are selected on different criteria such as education, work experience, knowledge of English and/or French; and other criteria that have been shown to help them become economically established in Canada.
Immigration Canada uses a point system to assess each applicants potential of becoming economically established in Canada. We will assess calculate your points, free of cost, to determine if you have 67 points, if so, you may be eligible for Canadian immigration. Points are awarded based on 6 different factors:
Education-points are calculated based on how many years after high school you have completed (Maximum 25 points)
Ability in English and/or French-based on first or second language proficiency in the area of speaking,reading, writing and listening (Maximum 24 points)
Experience-based on years of experience of one year to four years or more (Maximum 21 points)
Age-assessed from age 16 & under to 54 & up (Maximum 10 points)
Arranged employment in Canada-you will receive 10 points if you have a job offer in Canada or if you are currently working in Canada on a valid work permit (Maximum 10 points)Adaptability-based on partner's education, yours or your partners previous work or study in Canada, arranged employment and relative in Canada (Maximum 10 points)
Total possible points (Maximum 100 points)
Required number of points (Maximum 67 points)
There are many different eligible occupation categories at this time, 29 to be exact (falling into Skill type O, skill level A & B). What this means for you is that if you have worked in one of these positions full time for just 1-4 years in your home country, you may be eligible to immigrate under this class. You can also arrange employment for yourself in Canada, which could strengthen you application greatly. Regulation changes and requirements change regularly; one such change for skilled workers was implemented on June 26, 2010, a maximum of 20,000 Federal Skilled Worker applications will be considered for processing in the following 12 months. Within the 20,000 cap, a maximum of 1,000 Federal Skilled Worker applications per eligible occupation will be considered for processing each year.
