The government of Canada does not like to keep families separated, therefore, when you come to Canada and become a permanent resident in Canada you can apply to become a sponsor and then sponsor your family to Canada. You can apply to sponsor your spouse/common law or conjugal partner and/or any dependent children. Other family members (such as parents, grandparents, etc) can also be sponsored by you. If your spouse is already in Canada with you but has not become a permanent resident there is also an option to keep your spouse in the country on humanitarian grounds. Keep in mind also, as a permanent resident you also have the right to appeal a decision if need be. Depending on your situation and who you want to sponsor there are several different ways to reunite you with your family and keep them in the country with you.
